Morocco is located on the westernmost tip of North Africa, bordering Algeria to the east, and the Mediterranean to the north. Running through the middle of the country is the Atlas mountain range, which leads to the fertile plains and sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast. Morocco's identity has been carved from African, European and Middle Eastern influences.
Atlas Mountians -
Trekking in the High Atlas is not to be passed up. The experience will reward visitors with some of the most spectacular scenery and views in Africa. The summit of Jebel Toukbal, Morocco's highest mountain, is an excellent choice, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding country.
The Sahara-
The name itself conjures up romantic images of vast unending sands, charming desert oases, and of course the sheltering sky. If visitors to Morocco really want to lose themselves and get away from it all, there is no more extreme way to do so than to set off across the great desert.
The Mosque and Tomb of Moulay Idris II-
Considered one of the most sacred places in all of Morocco, the tomb of Moulay Idris II is a place of pilgrimage for Muslims from throughout Morocco and beyond. The atmospheric interiors are richly ornamented. Non-Muslims may not enter or even draw near the entrance.
Qarawiyyin Mosque-
One of the largest mosques in Africa, the Qarawiyyin Mosque is also one of the world's most beautiful places of worship. For over a thousand years great Muslim saints and scholars have congregated in its ornamental courtyard. It remains one of the most majestic monuments of Islam.
The Attarine Medersa -
Built in the fourteenth century by Sultan Abou Said, was initially designed to house students who had classes in the Karaouiyine Mosque. This is surely the most beautiful medersa in Fez, its proportions and decorations making it a jewel of Merinide art. Its name derives from the word "attar", which means spice trader.
